“My name is Julio, in 2004 I decided to undertake a trip to the United States, 17 years have passed, time in which I have not been able to see my parents who are one of the most important pillars in my life, today Today seeing the well-being of my family in Guatemala motivates me to keep going, knowing that my parents are fine and that I have been able to help them makes me happy, I try not to think about what I would do if something happens to them and I cannot do something for They, I know of cases of colleagues who have lost their parents and must mourn them from afar.
One of the happiest moments in my day to day is sending remittances to my family, sometimes I send a little more and ask them to share it with certain neighbors, they cannot imagine the peace I feel in my heart to be able to help someone outside the family, especially on holidays that I know may need a little money.
Today I miss the tranquility of my town in San Marcos, working in the fields and eating food, I have the desire to one day return to my country and be able to hug my parents again. My wife is Guatemalan and together we have 2 girls born in the United States, the oldest one I sent to my family so that they would meet her and every time she can she tells me “Dad, please I want to go to Guatemala to see my grandparents.” Guatemala, I hope in the near future to be able to send it again so that it always keeps the family and our culture present. “
